Highland Thai

Highland Thai is a distinctive landrace variety originating from mountainous regions of Northern Thailand and adjacent areas of Myanmar, with suspected ancestral ties to Chinese cannabis genetics. The strain likely descends from indica var. chinensis populations, potentially crossed with thin-leafed Southeast Asian cultivars. When given adequate space, Highland Thai demonstrates impressive vertical growth potential, occasionally exceeding 4 meters in outdoor soil gardens. The foliage displays moderately-sized leaflets that are noticeably wider than leaflets found in standard Thai varieties. Large seed production suggests genetic influence from Yunnan chinensis strains. The growth pattern—forming a dominant central stalk in confined growing conditions—further supports this Chinese heritage connection. Hollow stem structures indicate possible breeding history involving fiber-type cultivars. The variety produces substantial, highly resinous calyx development with tighter cluster formation compared to most other Southeast Asian strains. Two distinct phenotypic expressions occur: one green-phased and one purple-phased. The green-colored plants typically express musky and citrusy aromatic profiles, while the purple and blue-toned specimens generally develop mango and carrot-like scent characteristics.
